Textile Tectonics for Wood Construction
The project „Textile Architecture for Wood Construction“ is an investigation of the design, shaping, simulation, manufacture, and construction of lightweight load-bearing structural components made of wood-based continuous-fiber textiles. This requires specialized knowledge from various disciplines, which must work extremely closely with one another. This interdisciplinary synthesis of architecture, design, structural and mechanical engineering, materials science, digital simulation, and robotics is addressing the many challenging questions of design, construction, material properties, and production raised by the end goal. Our aim is to innovatively adapt established concepts in wood construction, such as panelized construction and wood framing, to textile construction. To do this, we are joining knowledge from the distinguished traditions of the craft of weaving with new digital and industrial technologies and manufacturing processes.
