Production of willows in agroforestry systems as raw material for willow wood fibres and salicylates

Findings from the areas of willow breeding and cultivation, the planning and establishment of AFS, the optimisation of the agricultural process chain from harvesting to drying and processing the willow rods, the extraction of salicylates from the willow bark and the utilisation of willow wood as endless solid wood thread and willow wood textile for use in construction and product design are being combined and put into practice for the first time. At 4 locations with different soil and climatic conditions, the findings are to be implemented for the first time as a model in order to demonstrate the plant cultivation, ecological, economic, material and labour management potential of this system along the entire value chain. The gap between research and practice will be closed and practical solutions will be implemented that will serve as a blueprint for other locations. The practical results and experiences are processed and publicised in an application-oriented and effective manner. Continuous public relations work guarantees a transparent presentation of the project and active consultation with all stakeholders along the entire value chain. Practically relevant findings are communicated through the broad network of project partners. Experimental plots are being created at the following locations:
